With a rainbow crawling down their backs, beams of cloud melt unto themselves.
I had never witnessed the sun set on the sea, never seen it gently pull its light away.
From lands I know, the sun and the sea are inseparable. Like many lovers, the end of a weary day calls for their unison to watch a display of light whose fading reveals a patterned course of lost stars. I extend my mind’s eye to watch them embrace tomorrow, where the horizon is the entire sky.

The sun remained eclipsed for days, shining brightly at us via a rainbow round a wholesome moon.
Veeraiya, the wisest of storytellers, spoke to us of forests and our role in repeated wanderings through the same. Our paths, he said, create streams. And thus, where we go, water follows, closely by life.
I may have become from a cultivated sea, but the mountains and the waters they birth are now my home. With each setting day, I grow afraid that my return may be distant and new love, challenging to find. It appears as if these mounds are clinging to me and crying out for me to stay, but it is I alone who weeps. These hills and the lives they sustain are my solitude. I may not know them, but their faces I shall never forget.
My descent wasn’t as steady as I foresaw. The dependable moon remained through my last day as the sun rose brilliantly from the ghats. Bamboo Rivers lead me away from my new familiar as my love grew mightier than the deep-seated roots that hold up these mountains despite gravity’s snare. This is now my only remaining hope – that my own travels create space for waters to flow and life to rejoice.
For amidst a sea of cloud, the earth is an adventure.

There is no rain, but dense clouds smear themselves across skies with bated breath and stillness. The elusive sun is displeased, wanting to gaze at Blue Mountains before setting off to witness another day. Deep yellow light swiftly floods through the gray, as we stand with our backs to the sun and watch it skilfully set on pronounced hills in the distance. Shadows begin to dance as two rainbows join frogs and cicadas in a revelling display of light and sound. I slowly wonder where tomorrow might wander as clouds climb inside rooms and form shadows.

I watched rain clouds burst and swirl amidst the stars as they curdled together into a haven; one that surprised me with familiarity and security. Home, some called it.
I watched until the sun rose and the clouds ran to the east, leaving a piercing blue sky blunt with tears. It is home, and I am in love.
A friendly goodbye calls out to me from a nearby intersection; time is a powerful, but selfish being.

As distance grows and desires reassemble, daylight begins a waltz.
Tucked amidst the clouds, decades of books lie scattered, as soft jazz calls out to the rain. We search through more than ourselves as fading paper reminds us of journeys we’ve taken only with our minds. In memory of who we were and who we sought to be, we gather wet soil and mould another becoming day. To remember that our lives are but fleeting, and that tomorrow will bring more rain.
Tomorrow, there will be.

Rain lightly dusts us in a breeze rattling through tea bushes and silver oak, reminiscent of the spray of the sea.
The monsoons arrived a week ago and were quick to kidnap the steady sun. We soon found ourselves in the liberating shackles of clouds as they began reclaiming the mountains with plundering winds. We seem to have returned to the routine madness of the skies, as light and warmth joyously dance through our valleys in silence.
