Walking the regular route to work today resulted in my feeling rather foolish, like the Emperor did on realising he was naked. Now that the bear and leopard have been visiting more frequently to check up on us, and the returning rains are on the retreat, and little children are out with their cricket bats and motorbikes, the wayward hedges and plants that crowd the sides of the roads have been trimmed extensively to let in more light.

With settling in any new geographical space comes familiarity and a fondness for a landscape and its faces. I miss these familiar greens, and the birds and insects that used to call them home. Their removal resulted in my feeling removed from my sanctuary, and thus, foolish.

Thank goodness I believe it healthy to revel in foolishness.
